Mayor Glasser mentioned that Commission is interested in adding a splash pad and additional
spend money.
3. STAFF PRESENTATION FOR SPLASH PAD AT DONNER PARK
Amanda Askew explained that the 2030 Parks Master Plan suggested a splash pad at one of
our parks. She presented the proposed splash pad location at Donner Park and explained grant
process.

Latrenia Thomas with Gail Baker Center shared her support and explained that the city
runs several after school and youth summer programs. She said the splash pad would
be a great amenity for these p
have access to pools.
4. ESC DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATION
Amy Palmer expressed interest in adding an art element into the splash pad and several ESC
members concurred with her suggestion.
Bruce Andrews asked Staff how many of the youth who use the program are from Atlantic
Beach.
Latrenia Thomas in response to Bruce's question: Summer camp is about 40 kids, after school
is blended all grades and capped at about 50 students. Estimated about 60% of participants are
AB residents.
Bruce Andrews expressed concern about noise and adjacent neighbors as well as operating
costs. Amanda responded fencing and potential landscaping would likely be included.
Amanda Askew said we reached out other cities regarding operating costs.
Deborah Andrews also wants an artistic value added to the splash pad. Suggested to reach out
to universities for art students and/or art projects.
Sarah Dark said that many unique examples of splash pads are out there already designed. She
the summer months and this would provide them with an opportunity for water play. Also
concerned about parking because these parks are usually very popular within the community.
Amanda Askew responded parking is being added and is part of the same grant request and
splash pad. It is intended to serve the community and city and not be a regional attraction.
Mark Gabrynowicz asked what the E
the responsibilities of ESC is parks and the parks master plan.
Romy Vann agreed with parking and she supports the location choice of Donner Park.
Amanda Askew said that Staff is looking at adding at least 12 spaces plus 1 handicapped along
George Street at the park.
