CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL Mark Gabrynowicz called the meeting to order. Linda Chipperfield called the roll. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Approve minutes of the October 12, 2022 regular Environmental Stewardship A. Committee meeting. MOTION: to approve the October 12, 2022 minutes Motion: Daniele Giovannucci Second: Linda Chipperfield A vote was note recorded. There was no dissent to approval of minutes. 3. COURTESY OF THE FLOOR (5 MINS.) A. Amy Franqui - Homegrown National Park Movement Amy Franqui gave a presentation about native landscaping (which is attached hereto and made part of this official record as - Attachment A). Discussion ensued about plantings on public and private property, native species, invasive species, and including this topic in the 2023 priorities. CHAIR REMARKS A. 2023 Priorities Mark Gabrynowicz expressed the importance of completing the ESC's 2023 priorities by the end of the December meeting in order to relay those to Commission before they set their priorities. He stated there will be volunteer based "work groups" who will work on tasks delegated to them by the ESC subcommittees. Sarah Boren said she is working with the city attorney to draft a resolution for subject matter experts and the structure of the work groups and reported the resolution for subject matter experts will be on the December 12th Commission meeting. 5. REPORTS A. Outreach Subcommittee Barbie Brooksher gave the Outreach Subcommittee report. She spoke about Arbor Day 2023 plans and stated events will be coordinated with Atlantic Beach Elementary School to include a tree identification scavenger hunt on campus, send home tree mapping activity, and take-home information about trees and protecting trees. Members discussed and generated ideas for lesson plans, activities, and an on-campus tree planting. B. Tree subcommittee This item was not discussed. C. Sustainability and Resiliency Subcommittee Sarah Boren gave the Sustainability and Resiliency Subcommittee report. She said the city will know the status of the LEED recertification on Friday November 18th and there will be a celebration at Adele Grage December 13th. 8. NEW BUSINESS A. Butterfly /Monarch Pledge 2023 Mark Gabrynowicz asked members to review the information provided by Chris McHan regarding the Mayor's Monarch Pledge. 6. MAYOR/STAFF REPORTS A. Community Composting Amanda Askew proposed mirroring City of Boston's "Project Oscar" in creating community composting sites along public right-of-way. Members discussed ideas and encouraging composting. Sarah Boren volunteered to research "Project Oscar" and suggested the ESC do an education program on composting at home. Discussion ensued. 4. Mark Gabrynowicz explained that individual members shall come up with an individual priority, a priority for the ESC, and a priority for Commission. He emphasized these should be based on ESC's tasks established in Chapter 23. He explained the priority setting spreadsheet. Discussion ensued. 7. OLD BUSINESS 8. NEW BUSINESS B. Heritage Tree - South side of 19th St. between Sherry Dr. and Hickory St. This item was not discussed. C. Grants This item was not discussed. 9.
