331 2nd Street Arborist Letter , F IlkA A R B__ 41T S}GAPES CQNStIPN L` TI}NG INC February 28,2023 John Lally 3312nd Street Atlantic Beach,Florida 32233 Re: Tree Evaluation: 42"Live Oak On Friday,February 17th, I performed a Level 2 Tree Risk Assesment on a 42"Live Oak located at 331 2nd Street. As shown in one of the pictures the tree has included bark. This is when two bifurcating limbs grow closely together in the shape of a narrow V rather than a healthy U shape. This changes the strength of the branch union. An included bark union does not have any strong supportive fiber strength resulting in weak under-supported branch angles. The tree is also located within 3'from the house. Trees should not be planted closer than 15'from a structure. Tree roots are constantly on the search for water and nutrients. Typically, they grow horizontally not far beneath the surface. When they encounter solid surfaces such as pipes, sidewalks, curbs and foundations they start growing down. If there are any cracks in a pipe or foundation tree roots will exploit those voids searching for water. They will also displace the soil around them causing the soil to shift. This puts a lot of pressure on the home's foundation. In the pictures provided you can see where the root system of this Oak has already caused damage to the hardscape, fence and some damage to the foundation is visible. You will also see that one large limb is extremely close to the eve of the house and as this limb expands with growth it will eventually start to damage the eve. The Tree Risk Assessment results are;Very likely to impact targets and consequences of failure are extreme. It is my recommendation that this Oak be removed before the tree fails at the included bark union and causes catastrophic damage. The targets of failure are 2 homes, cars and people.
