SUBJECT: Weekly Highlights
Here are highlights of City of Atlantic Beach activities and initiatives of significance. Please let us
know if you have any questions. These highlights are posted at www.coab.us/citymanager.
City Manager's Office
- Trekked with Planning and Community Development leadership to Fernandina Beach to tour
and learn more about the City's successful South Eighth Street corridor "revisioning" project.
- Reviewing matters pertaining to recycling service at condominiums.
Building
- No report.
City Clerk
Set-up web portals, processes, and application form for the newly created Safety, Traffic and
Parking (STOP) Committee. Accepting applications through May 15. The Board Member
Review Committee is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. May 23 to interview STOP Committee
applications.
Continuing research and providing records of past charter amendments and election data for
members and the public for the April 26 Charter Review Committee meeting.
Cultural Arts and Recreation
- Events
o Arts in the Park — Johansen Park, Saturday, April 22
o WellFest — Johansen Park, Saturday, May 6
Engineer
Worked with ACON through a COJ contract to get a guaranteed maximum price for the splash
pad. If the price we obtain from ACON is not reasonable, we will put the project out to bid
again.
Continued working with Regency Centers to obtain a Temporary Construction Easement for the
Aquatic Gardens project. Also continued working with TECO to get a gas line moved that is
potentially in the way of the construction project.
Finance
- Completed internal audit of commercial garbage accounts.
- Completed financials for the quarter ended March 31, 2023
Human Resources
- Review and comment on recent appraisal of all City properties.
Information Technology
- Virtual security environment upgrade.
- Cybersecurity recovery plan review.
Planning/Community Development
- Meeting with St. Johns River Water Management District representatives ways to help reduce
water consumption
- Prepped for the Bull Family land dedication ceremony at Tide Views Preserve on April 22.
Police
- Held its Q1 employee recognition event with seven employees honored and approximately 50
family members, friends and department members attending.
- Subject arrested on two felony charges in the IQ Fiber case.
Public Utilities
- Water Treatment Plant 41 antenna tower has been raised. Fencing around the tower and
electrical/cables and lines are being installed.
- The new well 42 has been installed in front of the WWTP and flushing/testing is underway.
- Fiber installation caused a 2" water main break on East Coast & 1St Street, resulting in damages
to City and customer water services.
Public Works
- Mulched the Atlantic Boulevard and Mayport Road medians, along with the Welcome to AB
areas at Mayport Road and Seminole Road.
- Dug out the sand drifts on the Third, Sixth, Seventh and 13`t' Street beach accesses.
- Painted six lifeguard chairs. Continuing to prepare for beach season.
- The 2023 mill -and -replace asphalt contract is out for bid. Bid opening is scheduled for May 17.
