10-24-22 - Handout November 24, 2022 I am here to request a variance in the property taxes of Susan K. Lynch. Her property taxes have gone from $5,200 to $ 42,000 this is not right. About Miss Lynch When she was born, she was brought home to 711 Ocean Blvd. This has been her home ever since. Her great grandfather bought the property in 1917. She has been a teacher in the Duval County schools ever since she graduated from University of South Florida. At first she was an elementary school. Then she was transferred to the magnet school Douglas Anderson School of the Arts for gifted students. Her mother left Duval County School system as the Supervisor of Art Education in the 80's. In the 90's she began showing signs of Alzheimer's Disease. In 1986 she was deemed incompetent. At that time she had power of attorney for her mother. Rather than put the house into her name as shown in the will, She put it in the trust. Thus Miss Lynch was teaching, taking care of her mother and doing all the work to maintaining a household. She is a kind and loving person. She took over the care of her best friends 2 dogs, when she died. She drove almost to Tennessee to get a dog for a friend. Then she paid vet bills and other needs for the dog. When her aunt was in the hospital she was always on hand to help her. There is a constitutional amendment on the ballot this fall for a tax exemption for teachers. It will probably pass. Probate was so slow that the house prices were at the very highest when she inherited her home. The property taxes and insurance will take all of her retirement payments. After consulting an attorney we found you have the power to make a variance.
