99-37 v RESOLUTION NO. 99- 37 • A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING STAFF TO PURSUE A CHANGE IN THE DATE OF CITY ELECTIONS, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the primary election for city commissioner is held every two (2) years on the first Tuesday in October and the general election, if necessary, is held every two (2) years on the third Tuesday in October; and WHEREAS, the elections referred to above are held in odd numbered years; and WHEREAS, the City Commission desires City staff to pursue changing the dates of City elections to even numbered years to coincide with state and federal elections, and to move the dates of said elections to November. NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach as follows: SECTION 1. City staff shall pursue changing the dates of the City elections and shall provide the City Commission with information regarding the procedures required and resulting effects thereof, including, but not limited to, the following: • (a) Affect, if any, on current elected city commissioners; and (b) Changes in City Charter, i.e., effective date of taking office, terms of city commissioners, and the like; and (c) Ordinances and referendum necessary to implement any changes. SECTION 2. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its final passage and adoption. PASSED by the City Commission this 25tty of October , 1999.
