A RESOLUTION HONORING LT. JARED I. SMITH FOR HIS
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF SERVICE AS AN OUTSTANDING POLICE
LIEUTENANT FOR THE CITY AND CITIZENS OF ATLANTIC BEACH,FLORIDA
WHEREAS, Lt. Jared I. Smith served as an exemplary Police Officer for twenty-five years
with the City; and
WHEREAS, He began his career as a Firefighter in 1968, and became a Police Officer in
1974, was promoted to Sergeant in 1980, and promoted to Lieutenant in 1985; and
WHEREAS,He was the first criminal investigator/detective for the Police Department who
handled all major case investigations, and he demonstrated a specific talent in crime scene processing
and evidence collection.
WHEREAS, He operated the evidence and property room for the Police Department for
many years. During his career, he developed expertise in photography that benefited the department,
but he also shared that information with others so that they could benefit from his knowledge and
talents in that area while pursuing criminal investigations.; and
WHEREAS,He pursued microcomputers, programing, and information management while
the industry was in its early stages, and actually designed or modified programs for the Police
Department, assisted other city departments in their information management, and repaired and
maintained the laptop computers in the Police Department when they were not working properly.
WHEREAS,all the contributions Lt. Smith made were accomplished while he continued his
commitment as a street level supervisor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:.
SECTION 1. The City Commission and Citizens of Atlantic Beach extend their most
heartfelt appreciation to Lt. Jared I. Smith for his many years of outstanding service in protecting our
Community.
SECTION 2. The City Manager is authorized on behalf of the City to give to Lt. Jared I.
Smith the Badge and Gun he carried as a Patrolman, as is the Law Enforcement Tradition for
outstanding service.
