A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC
BEACH, FLORIDA, IN SUPPORT OF THE WATERFRONTS FLORIDA
PROGRAM AND AUTHORIZING CITY STAFF TO SUBMIT AN
APPLICATION FOR FUNDING; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, The City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida,
supports local participation in the Waterfronts Florida Program, an initiative of the Florida
Department of Community Affairs to revitalize Florida working waterfronts; and
WHEREAS, The City of Atlantic Beach wishes to partner with the City of
Jacksonville in its efforts to stimulate economic revitalization of North Jacksonville barrier
islands including the Village of Mayport and surrounding areas, Ft. George, and Fanning
Islands; especially those to which it provides public services through an Interlocal
Agreement; and
WHEREAS, The City of Atlantic Beach wishes to express its full support for
seeking designation of these barrier islands as one of the first three Waterfronts Florida
Communities to be selected by July 1997; and
WHEREAS, The City of Atlantic Beach pledges to be an active partner in the
public-private Local Waterfront Committee that will function as the local partner under
this program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City
of Atlantic Beach, Florida that we support the Department of Community Affairs in its
efforts to manage this program and its other local community development efforts, and we
authorize city staff to submit a grant application to the Waterfronts Florida Program for
areas identified above.
Adopted by the City Commission of Atlantic Beach, Florida, this 24th day of
March, 1997.
