A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA,
REQUESTING CONGRESSIONAL SUPPORT TO REAUTHORIZE THE
INTERMODAL SURFACE TRANSPORTATION EFFICIENCY ACT(ISTEA) AS
IT IS CURRENTLY STRUCTURED
WHEREAS, since its passage in 1991,the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act
has provided funding for rail-trails and other bicycle and pedestrian improvements across the country;
and
WHEREAS, many of the projects funded by the Transportation Enhancements of ISTEA
linked neighborhoods and downtowns with pathways, resulting in improved safety for pedestrians,
bicyclists and motorists alike; and
WHEREAS,the City of Atlantic Beach, having recently purchased property to be developed
for recreational purposes, could benefit from a proposal known as "ISTEA Works" which provides
that the basic programs would remain in place, including the dedicated transportation enhancement
program.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach
expresses its full support of the ISTEA programs and urges the continuation of the Transportation
Enhancement Programs.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this resolution be mailed to the Duval
Legislation Delegation, the Governor of the State of Florida, Florida Department of Transportation
and Rails-to-Trails Conservancy.
ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida, this 28th day of
April, 1997.
