A RESOLUTION HONORING MICHAEL W. MARCUM FOR HIS
TWENTY YEARS OF SERVICE AS AN OUTSTANDING MECHANIC AND EXPERT
AUTOMOTIVE AND HEAVY EQUIPMENT REPAIRMAN FOR THE CITIZENS
OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, Michael W. Marcum began working for the City of Atlantic Beach on June
11, 1977 as a Water Maintenance Worker; in 1985 he attained the position of Mechanic; and through
years of dedicated service and education he attained the position of Mechanic II; and
WHEREAS, His duties include the repair and service of automotive and heavy equipment,
and he utilizes extensive knowledge and skill while using sophisticated tools and methods of repair;
and
WHEREAS, Mike is well known for his initiative and will often purchase a manual to train
himself to complete a repair at substantial savings to the City. These repair savings total thousands
of dollars per year, which would have ordinarily been paid to an outside vendor. He has just
completed night school for a course in Fuel System and Electronic Monitoring of Pollution Values
and, in addition, he is certified in many areas related to this field; and
WHEREAS, On many occasions Mike is required to come to work during weekends to
execute repairs to emergency vehicles for the Fire and Police Departments as well as the Lifeguard
Department to avoid the possibility of life-threatening problems. He has been commended by the
Public Safety Department and the Director of Public Works.
WHEREAS, The Department of Public Works has depended on Michael W. Marcum to
enhance and support their contribution to the citizens of Atlantic Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA,AS FOLLOWS:.
SECTION 1. The City Commission and Citizens extend their most heartfelt appreciation to
Michael W. Marcum, and congratulate and commend him for his 20 years of outstanding service to
the City of Atlantic Beach.
Adopted by the City Commission of Atlantic Beach this 23rd day of June, 1997.
