WHEREAS,the Town Center Organization was established to enhance the character and ambience in the business
area on Atlantic Boulevard between Third Street and the Atlantic Ocean; and
WHEREAS, Joanna Fletcher was an integral part of the Town Center Organization since its inception and served
as Chair of the Board of Directors for two years, was involved in every phase of the improvements including the
selection of a project planner and landscape architect, organized volunteers to clean bricks, and assisted in
the development of a long range plan; and
WHEREAS, Joanna Fletcher worked diligently to secure funding for the project through the City of Jacksonville
and Councilman Dick Brown, helped to organize Town Center festivals, and coordinated the sale of personalized
bricks which raised approximately $100,000.00; and
WHEREAS, Phases one and two of the project have been completed and brick-paved sidewalks constructed,
resulting in an aesthetically pleasing and pedestrian friendly area; and
WHEREAS,Joanna Fletcher, a busy mother, also participated in her children's school activities, was a member
of the city's Beautification Committee and was instrumental in establishing the city's Cultural Arts Board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,the Atlantic Beach City Commission recognizes Joanna Fletcher for
her community service and conunends her for her contributions to preserve and improve the quality of life in
Atlantic Beach.
ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach, this 24th day of November 1997.
