WHEREAS, John Wesley Weldon, a resident of Atlantic Beach
who served two terms on the Atlantic Beach City Commission
including one term as mayor pro tem, died on Friday, November
26 , 1993 . He was born in St. Charles, South Carolina and moved
to Atlantic Beach in 1960; and
WHEREAS, John Wesley Weldon was retired Vice President and
General Counsel of the former Seaboard System Railroad
Company. He graduated from Presbyterian College in Clinton,
South Carolina, and the University of Virginia School of Law in
Charlottesville, and he served in the U. S. Army during World
War II as a Major in Europe and later retired from the Army
Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel; and
WHEREAS, John Wesley Weldon held numerous church,
charitable, and community positions, including Elder and
Trustee of Community Presbyterian Church of Atlantic Beach.
He was active in the United Way of Jacksonville and was
recipient, of the Paul Harris Fellow Award of the Rotary
Foundation and the Silver Beaver Award of Boy Scouts of America.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE ATLANTIC BEACH
CITY COMMISSION expresses sincere appreciation for the life of
John Wesley Weldon and for the outstanding service rendered to
the city of Atlantic Beach, and that the City Commission hereby
expresses its most sincere sympathy to the family of Mr. Weldon.
ADOPTED BY THE City Commission of the City of Atlantic
Beach, Florida, this 24th day of January, 1994 .
