A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH,
FLORIDA, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO A PROPOSED
TAX INCREASE BY THE ST. JOHNS RIVER WATER
MANAGEMENT DISTRICT; AND, PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the St. Johns River Water Management District has
jurisdiction over water management within the City of Atlantic
Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City of Atlantic Beach is greatly concerned
about increasing property taxes at every level; and
WHEREAS, the St. Johns River Water Management District has
proposed a 55% increase in the property tax rate for property
owners within its nineteen (19) county area of jurisdiction; and
WHEREAS, that level of increase would negatively impact the
citizens of Atlantic Beach;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH, Florida, that:
Section 1 . The City of Atlantic Beach hereby opposes the
55% increase in property taxes proposed by the St. Johns River
Water Management District as being excessive.
Section 2. The City of Atlantic Beach commends citizens
groups such as AX THE TAX who are informing citizens of proposed
tax increases and working toward making government at all levels
more efficient.
Section 3. This resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its passage .
