Email to Candidates regarding Petition Nomination-Petition Forms and ProcessGood Morning, AB Candidates! This is a reminder that you may begin circulating petitions on Wednesday, July 17 (see information below). Attached are nomination forms for each office being sought. 2024- July 17 Wednesday First day Nomination Petitions can be circulated Charter Sec. 39 <https://www.municode.com/library/fl/atlantic_beach/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=PTICH_ARTIXEL_S39NO> 40 days prior to the 1st day of qualifying 2024- August 16 Friday 5:00 pm - Deadline to file Nomination Petitions with City Clerk Charter Sec. 39 <https://www.municode.com/library/fl/atlantic_beach/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=PTICH_ARTIXEL_S39NO> No later than 10 days prior to the qualifying period Below is additional information about the nomination petition process: * The nomination petitions must be handled in the order appearing on the form. 1. The top of the form must be completed prior to obtaining any signatures. 2. When obtaining the AB electors’ signatures, have them provide everything that is requested on the form. 3. The person who circulated the nomination petition form must complete the Statement of Circulator by writing in the number of signatures per page; signing, and providing their home and business phone numbers. 4. Candidates must complete the Acceptance of Nomination by providing a signature, home phone, and business phone. * Petitions are required and must be filed with the city clerk no later than 5:00 pm on August 16 (10 days prior to the qualifying period); however, I recommend that you file them at least three days earlier, based on the following reasons: You will need to obtain at least 25 signatures of registered Atlantic Beach electors, qualified to vote (although I recommend getting more in case there are some signatures that do not pass the verification process) and file the petitions with me (or Deputy City Clerk Ladayija Nichols). Once the petitions are properly filed, someone from my office will email them to the Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office to verify. If there are less than 25 signatures counted/verified, and the deadline has passed (August 16 at 5:00 p.m.), you would not be able to qualify. The Charter states in part - …“Within two days after the filing of a nominating petition, the city clerk shall notify the candidate and the person who filed the petition whether or not it is found to be signed by the required number of qualified electors. If a petition is found insufficient, the city clerk shall return it immediately to the person who filed it with a statement certifying wherein the petition is found insufficient. Within the regular time for filing petitions, such a petition may be amended and filed again as a new petition, in which case the time of the first filing shall be disregarded in determining the validity of signatures thereon, or a different petition may be filed for the same candidate” … City Clerk’s Office: Donna Bartle, City Clerk: dbartle@coab.us <mailto:dbartle@coab.us> (904) 247-5809 Ladayija Nichols, Deputy City Clerk: lnichols@coab.us <mailto:lnichols@coab.us> (904) 247-5821 Please let me know if you have any questions.
