WHEREAS, the Aegis class cruiser USS Monterey will be commissioned
Saturday, June 16, 1990, at 10:00 AM at Mayport Naval Station, Mayport,
Florida, and
WHEREAS, the USS Monterey will be based at Mayport Naval Station
adjacent to Atlantic Beach, and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commissioners and citizens of Atlantic
Beach wish to extend a heartfelt welcome to the 368 officers and men
assigned to the USS Monterey, and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commissioners and citizens of Atlantic
Beach wish to also extend a warm welcome to the families of the officers
and men assigned to the USS Monterey,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA, as follows:
Section 1. The Mayor, City Commissioners and citizens of
Atlantic Beach extend the warm hand of friendship to the 368 officers
and men assigned to the Aegis class cruiser USS Monterey upon its
commissioning at Mayport Naval Station on June 16, 1990, and wish for
all aboard prosperity, happiness and peace.
Section 2. That this Resolution of welcome be presented to
Captain Joel Heaton, Commanding Officer of the USS Monterey upon the
commissioning of the ship, and that certified copies thereof be spread
upon the official minutes of the City of Atlantic Beach.
INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED BY THE ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION this 29th
day of May 1990.
