90-18 v 1 RESOLUTION #90-18 RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR FULL PARTICIPATION OF AMERICAN INDUSTRY IN THE PROVISION OF TELECOMMUNICA- TIONS EQUIPMENT AND SERVICE, EXCEPT FOR CABLE TELEVISION WHEREAS, more competition in the telephone equipment market place will benefit cities through lower prices, and WHEREAS, allowing the Bell Operating Companies to manufacture telephone equipment may increase domestic jobs in our cities, and WHEREAS, freeing the Bell Operating Companies from the information services, except for cable television, restrictions will increase the availability of new and innovative services to serve our citizens, and WHEREAS, permitting the Bell Operating Companies to provide a full-range of information services, except for cable television, will increase the availability of educational resources via communications for the schools in our counties. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach as follows: Section 1. That the Congress carefully study the impact of new technologies while updating the national telecommunications policy. Section 2. That Congress pass legislation that would lift the restrictions on the Bell Operating Companies in manufacturing and information services, except for cable television, with proper safeguards to ensure fair and open competition to all. Section 3. That this resolution be sent to Congressman Bennett and Florida's U.S. Senators signed by the appropriate respresentatives of the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida. r 1 Resolution No. 90-18 Page Two Passed by the City Commission of Atlantic Beach, Florida, this 26th day of November, 1990.
