89-33 v RESOLUTION NO. 89-33 WHEREAS, the City Commission of Atlantic beach understands plans are underway for Renourishment of the beaches in our area; and WHEREAS, the renourishment plan calls for the pumping of clean river sand onto the Atlantic Beaches during the harbor deepening project; and WHEREAS, the last renourishment of the Atlantic Beaches used similar material which included shredded tires, wire, metal cans and glass and was found to be completely unacceptable; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of Atlantic Beach strongly opposes the use of river sand for renourishment of the Atlantic Beaches NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach; SECTION 1 The City Commission strongly opposes the use of any river sand for renourishment activities on the Atlantic Beaches from the Jetties, South to Atlantic Blvd. SECTION 2 That certified copies of this resolution be furnished to the Corp of Engineers, the Florida Cabinet, Governor Bob Martinez, the Duval County Legislative Delegation, the Duval County Congressional Delegation and U.S. Senators Bob Graham and Connie Mack.
