RESOLUTION NUMBER 88-14
WHEREAS, in the 20 ' s and 30 ' s, Atlantic Beach was recognized
internationally as a beach unusually adapted to bathing,
recreation and other economic and health giving resources;
WHEREAS , Chapter 161 , Part 1 , Florida Statutes 1987 ,
provides for the stability of the beach-dune system and
protection of native coastal vegetation and places a high
priority on preserving and protecting same and establishes
penalties for persons doing or causing damage thereto;
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Commission
that certain persons with boats, catamarans, Hobicats, and other
equipment may be damaging the dunes and sea oats within Atlantic
Beach contrary to Chapter 161, Part 1, Florida Statutes 1987 .
NOW THEREFORE, Be it resolved that the City Commission of
the City of Atlantic Beach does hereby request the Chief of
Police of Atlantic Beach, the Sheriff of Duval County and his
deputies, the Department of Natural Resources, the City Attorney
and the State Attorney to take such legal action as may be
necessary and authorized to carry out the enforcement provisions
of Chapter 161 , Part 1 , Florida Statutes 1987 in order to

preserve and protect these naturally created dunes and native
vegetation.
THIS RESOLUTION ADOPTED by the City Commission, Atlantic
Beach, Florida, the 25th day of July, 1988 .
