3.A. Sustainability and Resilience Matters & Community Action Plan
i.Discussed S&R Community Action Plan Terminology
a. Focus area descriptions – what each area covers in active state (e.g., increasing
recycling and composting)
b. Goals – are big picture, overarching ambitions, end state, LEED for Cities intent.
Each focus area has several goals
c.Targets -- are the quantifiable method of tracking progress towards the goal.
Each goal ideally has one target
d.Actions -- explain how AB will reach each target. Each target usually has four or
five actions.
e. Steps – outline to baby steps to complete an action that act as an internal workplan
for implementation and planning purposes

b. Discussed the positives and negatives of “chunking / bite sizing” focus areas so
they are more understandable by the general public versus using the wonky LEED
focus areas. There is concern that there are too many focus areas following the
Sustainable DC approach yet recognize being able to easily present and explain to
the community what is happening in a focus area is also really important.
c.Discussed how we have several different audiences for the S&RCAP each of
which needs slightly different presentation – general public (high level, absorbable
information with graphics on progress along with link to full technical report if
interested, staff (how CAP fits into their day-to-day, CIP, and long term planning)
and government/private grant makers (require detailed technical information)
i.Public facing needs to be simple, non-technical with goal of helping
residents find information quickly and conveying what the city is working
on. SRSC likes City of Orlando’s approach on their website:

a.Todd will continue to work on best approach to facilitate public input at 11/18
community meetings.
b.Sarah to get 11/18 community meeting scheduled and noticed.
c.Sarah to continue to delineate goals, targets, actions, and steps in each focus area
for updated 2024 CAP in time for community meeting on 11/18 and ESC 2025
