This report addresses the condition and safety implications of two Laurel Oak (Quercus
laurifolia) trees located at the above address. Both trees were assessed for potential risk to
nearby structures due to proximity, structural integrity, and observed decay.
Tree Assessment Details
Tree 1
•Species: Laurel Oak (Quercus laurifolia)
•Size: Approximately 24 inches in Diameter at Breast Height (DBH)
•Proximity to Structure: 3.9 feet from the home
•Condition Summary: The tree poses a significant risk due to its close proximity to the
house. The root system’s location threatens the foundation of the home as well as
surrounding sidewalks, with potential to cause structural damage.
Tree 2
•Species: Laurel Oak (Quercus laurifolia)
•Size: Approximately 28 inches DBH
•Proximity to Structure: 5.7 feet from the home
•Condition Summary: This tree displays severe outward signs of advanced internal
decay, particularly in the crown and large structural leads. The decay compromises the
tree’s structural integrity, posing a high risk of limb or whole-tree failure.
Recommendations
Due to the observed decay in Tree 2 and the inadequate safe distances of both trees from the
home, I recommend the removal of both Laurel Oaks to eliminate the risk to the property and its
occupants. Given the trees’ proximity and condition, their structural stability cannot be ensured.
