NO. 86-1
A RESOLUTION URGING THE EXPEDITING OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF
THE EXTENSION OF WONDERWOOD ROAD FROM MAYPORT ROAD TO
STATE ROAD 9A
WHEREAS, the U. S. Naval Station Mayport is today one of the most
strategic Naval installations on the eastern seaboard of the United States
while continuing to expand, and
WHEREAS, the Beaches area, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, and Jack-
sonville Beach has been growing in population above the norm, and
WHEREAS, the only east-west routing to and from the three beaches is
Atlantic Boulevard (State Road 10) , and
WHEREAS, Atlantic Blvd. a few years ago was closed for over 2 days
because of forest fires, and
WHEREAS, the present Atlantic Boulevard (State Road 10) by projection
will not be capable of handling the projected traffic increase.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA, as follows:
Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach,
Florida views as a priority the necessity of constructing on an emergency
basis the proposed Wonderwood Road Expressway from Mayport Road across the
Intracoastal Waterway westerly to State Road 9A. This will be a safety factor
for our citizens allowing them to have better access to and from their jobs
and their homes and at the same time allow freer access as a national defense
issue for the U. S. Navy thus tying in by limited access highway all three
Naval facilities in the Jacksonville area.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its
passage.
