82-01 v_,, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF ,THE CITX -~A OF ATLANTIC BEACH URGING THE STATE LEGISLATURE ~"-~~"""` TO INCLUDE TF~E BEACH CITIES IN THE SAME LEGIS- LATIVE DISTRICT ' ~~"', WHEREAS, the State Legislature of the State of Florida is required to reapportion the legislative districts in the 1982 legislative session; and WHEREAS, the State Legislature must determine new House and Senate district boundaries to conform with population shifts in the past ten years; and WHEREAS, in the past, the Duval County cities east of the Intercoastal Waterway have not been in the same legislative districts; and WHEREAS, these Beach municipalities have common interests unique to these Beach cities; and WHEREAS, the Beach cities have demonstrated their ability to work jointly to solve common problems in order to meet the needs of their citizens; and WHEREAS, it would be an the best interest of all citizens of the Beach municipalities to be within the same legislative district, whether single or multi-member, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: Section 1. That the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach strongly objects to any legislative redistricting which will separate the City of Atlantic Beach from the other beach municipalities. Section 2. That the Legislature of the State ,of Florida be and hereby is urged and requested to draw ,new House and Senate District lines which will provide for the inclusion of the Beach cities in the same district.
