Resolution No. 25-47RESOLUTION NO. 2547 A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH COMPREHENSIVE SAFETY ACTION PLAN WITH THE GOAL OF ELIMINATING TRAFFIC DEATHS AND SERIOUS INJURIES ON ROADS WITHIN CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, roadway crashes involving fatalities and serious injuries are a significant issue in the United States, the State of Florida, City of Atlantic Beach; and WHEREAS, it is critical for the City of Atlantic Beach to prioritize the Safety Action Plan to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and road users of all ages and abilities; and WHEREAS, fatal and severe crashes are preventable, and death and serious injury are currently an unacceptable cost on our roadway system; and WHEREAS, pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists represent the most vulnerable road users in Atlantic Beach over the past five years; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Transportation has adopted the Safe System approach and Florida Department of Transportation has adopted a Target Zero Initiative; and WHEREAS, the City of Atlantic Beach has adopted a Vision Zero goal which includes projects throughout Atlantic Beach requiring future collaboration and coordination with local, regional, and state partners; and WHEREAS, City of Atlantic Beach received a federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant for the development of a Safety Action Plan; and WHEREAS, this Safety Action Plan represents both a data -driven approach but also an opportunity to meaningfully engage stakeholders and the public to identify safety concerns in the City. NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that: SECTION 1. The City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach hereby adopts the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, which was developed with input from stakeholders, members of the public, and a multi -disciplinary Task Force comprised of representatives from local organizations and agencies with expertise in transportation, roadway engineering, law enforcement, emergency response, equity, transit, biking, and walking. The goal is to eliminate traffic deaths and severe injuries in the city. SECTION 2. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon the adoption date below.
