RE: Roof Bearing Capacity for the Brzezicki Residence – 1841 Atlantic Beach Drive, Atlantic Beach, FL 32081
Dear Mr. Wilking,
Per your request, I have prepared the following letter and calculations for the Brzezicki Residence in Atlantic Beach, FL.
The analysis was done using ASCE 7-22 standards. The ASCE 7-22 ultimate windspeed for the location of the dwelling is
129 mph. My analysis used a windspeed of 130 mph with exposure D to determine the maximum rail spans. Based on
this report, the minimum span for XR100 rail in these conditions is 51” and the proposed maximum span for this
installation is 48” which conforms to the standard.
The dwelling was built in 2019 with a roof support system consisting of 2”x4” Southern Pine trusses, spaced 24” O.C.
with a maximum span of 20 ft. Asphalt shingle roofing and ESB cover the trusses. The design dead load (10 PSF) + live
load (30 PSF) is 40 PSF, which translates to 1,600 lbs/truss. The proposed PV system will add an additional 2.5 PSF or 50
lbs/truss, for a total load of 1,650 lbs/truss. The roof structure will be able to withstand the additional weight from the
PV system.
