372 5th St Arborist Letter 7.9.25 - Invasive Trees TO: Kay Scott
372 5th St, Atlantic Blvd, FL
July 3, 2025
On July 1, 2025, 1 conducted an assessment of 4 trees at 372 5th St, Atlantic Beach, FL. All
four are cherry laurels located next to a fence under dense vegetation and tree coverage from
the neighboring yard. DBH was measured at 4 feet from the ground. Although cherry laurels
are native to Florida, they can be invasive in that the many seeds that fall germinate readily in
Florida soils.
The erratic growth form of these trees indicate the fierce competition for sunlight due to the
neighboring canopy of vegetation. All four trees show signs and symptoms of decay and
disease and are dying (see photos). Large branches of the crown are already dead. There are
mushroom conks and numerous wounds exhibiting fungal decay. Tree failure will impact the
wood fence and both yards.
I recommend these trees be removed.
