Tree Assessment - Live Oak Tree
Mr. Kerr,
The assessment below was performed in accordance with the Tree Risk Assessment Best
Management Practice, 2nd Edition (2017). The live oak tree is an unacceptable risk, and
trimming and pruning will not reduce the risk. The removal is the only means of practically
mitigating its risk to below moderate.
1.The removal of one 28” DBH visibly dead front left elm tree. The Elm tree is an
imminent failure hazard to persons and property and should be removed as soon as
possible to preserve the same.
2.The necessary removal of one 42” live oak tree on the left side of the home due to the
following unacceptable risks and conditions observed on July 15th, 2025 at 2:30 pm in
normal weather conditions.
A. Restricted root system. The live oak tree is in too close proximity to home with
restricted buttress roots 8” from foundation of home restricting 40% of necessary root
area for stability.
B. The overweight and overextended canopy overhanging the home creating a potential
uproot hazard due to above root restriction and proximity issues.
C. Roots visibly damaging utilities walkway and driveway due to lack of available space
and have created unacceptable trip fall hazard to persons and lack of accessibility to
repair damaged utilities. Due to the size of the tree restrictive root system proximity of
tree to home and left side neighboring home and 75% of canopy overhanging home the
failure of the above tree is the possible Likelihood of impacting target is likely from root
system trunk or canopy and the consequences of failure is severe. The combined likelihood
of failure and consequences of failure providing moderate risk rating for the above tree,
that cannot be reduced to low by trimming or pruning. The above tree should be
considered for removal to remove unacceptable risk to persons and preserve properties.
