A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA, FORMALLY NAMING THE CITY
PARKS CURRENTLY KNOWN AS AQUATIC DOG PARK AND WEST
6TH STREET OVERLOOK AS AQUATIC DOG PARK AND RIVER
BRANCH OVERLOOK, RESPECTIVELY; PROVIDING FOR
CONFLICTS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Atlantic Beach is committed to recognizing and honoring its parks
and the distinctive neighborhoods in which they are located, which collectively contribute to the
character and identity of the community; and
WHEREAS, the park located at 268 Aquatic Drive, presently known as Aquatic Dog Park,
is characterized by a large stormwater pond, a walking trail, and various dog -friendly amenities,
making it a valued and integral part of the City's parks system; and
WHEREAS, the name Aquatic Dog Park appropriately reflects both the location and the
recreational nature of the facility; and
WHEREAS, the overlook located at the terminus of West 6th Street provides an
exceptional vantage point for observing the surrounding marshlands and ecological features,
offering scenic views extending from Dutton Island Preserve to Tide Views Preserve; and
WHEREAS, the name River Branch Overlook aptly represents the overlook's geographic
location and its connection to the surrounding natural preservation areas; and
WHEREAS, the City has followed its Parks, Recreation Areas, and Building Naming
Policy, and the Arts, Recreation, and Culture Committee, at its meeting on October 14, 2025,
recommended that the park located at 268 Aquatic Drive be formally designated as Aquatic Dog
Park and the overlook at the end of West 6th Street be designated as River Branch Overlook,
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach
as follows:
SECTION 1. In recognition of the parks, the City Commission hereby adopts the name
Aquatic Dog Park for the park located at 268 Aquatic Drive and River Brac Preserve for the park
located West 6h Street.
SECTION 2. All Resolutions or parts of Resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed to the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passage and adoption.
