After college, medical school and residency, I worked full time as an anesthesiologist in Baltimore for 15 years, then in New Jersey for 13 more years. During that time I not only gained clinical experience, but managerial and administrative as well, in several capacities: first, as the clinical director of a 2-room surgery center in Towson Maryland, then later as Director of Anesthesia for a large private anesthesia group (7 separate surgery centers). I was involved in handling scheduling, certification, staffing and compliance for these centers. This has prepared me to understand how to manage a business, in particular how to effectively manage people, especially during times of potential conflict. Please describe any board/committee experience relative to the board/committee you are applying for. I was board chairman of Connecting Thru Music, a 501(c)3 non-profit that provided Music Therapy to children with special needs, typically cognitive, physical and communicative difficulties. I called for meetings, applied for documents, met with donors and generally handled much of the management aspects of the organization. I held that position from 2018-2022, whereupon I stepped down as Chair but remained on the board. Later the next year, CTM was absorbed by Cathedral Arts Project, who are ensuring that Music Therapy is still being provided to these very deserving children. I have been on the board or a member of several other groups, including Atlantic Beach Preservation and have also attended numerous city council meetings on issues important to our city. I am passionate about preserving the natural beauty and community vibrancy of Atlantic Beach. Please describe any community involvement or volunteer experience relative to the board/committee you are applying for. My husband Peter and I have been members of ABCC since 2017, and we enjoy the many great amenities it provides and have made some wonderful friendships. In addition to my past work on CTM, I volunteer every Tuesday at Volunteers in Medicine, a clinic that provides free health care to people who work at least 20 hours/week and whose income is below 250% of Federal Poverty Level. This has been very rewarding, but also enlightening as the struggles of our neighbors are very evident. I also am a member of several community groups, including Moms Demand Action (gun-safety advocacy group) and the National Organization for Women, where I am VP of the Jacksonville chapter. In addition, I've been a strong advocate for our community, getting to know many of our city's members over the past 7 years. Please provide a brief explanation of your interest and your reasons for wishing to be appointed to this Agenda Item # 26 Mar 2026 Page 15 of 49 board/committee. Although a relatively new resident (2018) of Atlantic Beach, I fell in love immediately with this community, in particular its lushness, community activities, dog-friendliness, vibrant downtown and welcoming neighborhoods. I am very passionate about maintaining all these aspects of this wonderful city, while maintaining a positive and healthy community. I believe my broad experience throughout my career and afterwards would provide strong problem- solving skills and contribute to the committee in positive ways. I studied Urban Planning in college and have worked in the field of architecture and design since 1998. Throughout my career, I have been actively involved in the planning and development process for residential and mixed-use projects. My experience includes preparing and coordinating site plans, working with civil and structural engineers, and navigating municipal regulations such as zoning setbacks, easements, and land development codes. I regularly coordinate with local jurisdictions and regulatory agencies, including the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, to ensure projects comply with environmental regulations, stormwater management requirements, and other applicable standards. This work requires a thorough understanding of municipal processes, land-use planning principles, and the practical considerations involved in responsible development. Please describe any board/committee experience relative to the board/committee you are applying for. While I have not previously served on a formal municipal board or committee, my professional work in architecture has required extensive collaboration with planning departments, review boards, and regulatory agencies. Since 1998, I have regularly participated in project coordination that involves zoning compliance, site planning, development standards, and navigating municipal review processes. Through this work, I have gained a strong understanding of land-use regulations, permitting procedures, and the practical considerations involved in reviewing development proposals. My experience working with architects, engineers, planners, and local jurisdictions has provided valuable insight into how regulatory boards evaluate projects and balance community standards with responsible development. Please describe any community involvement or volunteer experience relative to the board/committee you are applying for. I have been actively involved in community service through both church and youth leadership. I previously served as a church deacon, where I helped support congregational needs and community outreach efforts. I also volunteered as a Scoutmaster for a Boy Scout troop and as a leader for a Cub Scout troop, mentoring youth and organizing activities focused on leadership, responsibility, and community service. These roles strengthened my commitment to community engagement, collaboration, and service, values that I would bring to my participation on this board/committee. Please provide a brief explanation of your interest and your reasons for wishing to be appointed to this Agenda Item # 26 Mar 2026 Page 19 of 49 board/committee. My wife and I have maintained a full-time residence in Atlantic Beach for the past six years and have lived in the Beaches community for over fifteen years. During that time, we have developed a deep appreciation for the character and quality of life that makes this area special. I would welcome the opportunity to donate my time and professional experience to help support thoughtful growth and ensure our community continues to thrive. Serving on this board would allow me to contribute my background in architecture, planning, and development while helping preserve the unique qualities that make Atlantic Beach such a great place to live. I work in Commercial Strategy and Sustainability at Rio Tinto, focusing on the intersection of economic development and environmental stewardship. Previously, as a consultant with the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), I supported cities in implementing sustainable infrastructure and transportation choices that also preserved local character. I also scaled a surf therapy program reliant on healthy coastal systems. Please describe any board/committee experience relative to the board/committee you are applying for. Board member of small NGOs I helped develop. Also led the development of collective impact stakeholder groups. Led various corporate sustainability groups and initiatives. I also have experience as a volunteer wildland firefighter, providing a practical background in land management and crisis resilience. Locally, I support schools where my children have attended. Please provide a brief explanation of your interest and your reasons for wishing to be appointed to this board/committee. As a father of two, I am a daily user of our parks and coast. My recent experience building a sustainable home in Atlantic Beach highlighted opportunities in facilitating sustainable decisions. Having lived globally through things like a "Day Zero" water draught, wildfires, and typhoons/ massive flooding, I want to apply that perspective to help the ESC build local resilience and make sustainable choices the easy option for residents. We moved to a low lying coastal city with beautiful trees and parks and hope to be good stewards for future generations.
