Chairman Gregg McCaulie, called the meeting to order and asked
for approval of the minutes from the meeting of April 20 , 1993 .
Upon motion duly made and seconded said minutes were approved as
corrected.
NEW BUSINESS :
I . Application for Variance filed by James T . Davis to construct
an awning that will encroach the rear yard setback line on property
located at 59 West 9th Street .
Mr . Davis introduced himself to the board and explained that the
nature of his business was restoring used and damaged golf balls
and the majority of the work was performed outside . An awning
would enable the business operate five days a week regardless of
the weather .
After discussion, Mr . Frohwein moved to deny the variance, Mr .
Wolfson seconded the motion and the application for variance was
denied by a vote of 4 -1 .
II . Application for Change in Zoning from RS-2 to RG-3 filed by
Louis B. MacDonnell , et . al . , for construction purposes at property
located at the dead end of Cornell Lane on the north side of the
street .
Mr . MacDonnell introduced himself to the board and explained the
change of zoning was requested to allow the construction of
Jacksonville HUD single family and duplex buildings .
Glen Richards introduced himself to the board as prospective
contractor in connection with the proposed project .
After discussion , it was decided to defer this application until
the next meeting to allow a representative from HUD to attend the
meeting and explain the construction plans to the Board .
III . Application for Variance filed by Continental Construction
Company to change the side and rear setback requirements on three
lots in the Tiffany by the Sea Subdivision .
The applicant , Bob Pastore , introduced himself to the board and
explained that the variance was requested to increase the
marketability of the lots . He presented drawings to the Board
indicating the types of homes that his company proposed to build
if the variance was granted .
Safa Mansouri introduced himself to the board as owner of the
property and stated the problems in selling the lots with the
present construction capabilities .
After discussion, Mr . Wolfson moved to deny the variance request .
Mr . McCaulie seconded the motion and the application for variance
was unanimously denied .
IV . Application for Variance filed by John and Lorene Mizell to
construct a roof over an existing patio on property located at 522
Clippership Lane .
Mrs . Mizell introduced herself to the Board and stated that the
application was substantially different from her previous variance
request for an enclosed room which the Board and the City
Commission had denied .
After discussion, the Board determined by a vote of 4 - 1 that the
application was not substantially the same as the applicant ' s
previous application . The issue of the variance was then taken up .
After discussion, Mrs . Pillmore moved to deny the application, Mrs .
Walker seconded the motion and the application was denied by a vote
of 4 - 1 .
OLD BUSINESS :
The Board discussed possible dates to meet with the City Commission
to discuss various matters of conflict regarding the
interpretations of auxiliary buildings or structures . It was
decided that 6 : 00 p .m. , June 14th and 28th, 1993 would be a good
time to meet and it was just before the regularly scheduled
meetings of the Commission in June, 1993 .
There being no further business to come before the meeting on
motion duly made and seconded it was adjourned .
