MINUTES OF THE ADVISORY PLANNING BOARD OF THE CITY OF ATLANTIC
BEACH HELD AT THE CITY HALL, OCTOBER 17, 1972, AT 8: 00 P.M.

The meeting was called to order by Mr. R. L. Wardrep, Chairman.
Mr. Wardrep explained that the Advisory Planning Board was a
body appointed by the Commission and that the Board served in an
advisory capacity only.
The following listed people from Donner Subdivision were in atten-
dance:
Riva Little Silmon
Felix Jackson
Bertha Jackson
Edna Henderson
Sarah Rankins
Rev. W. C. Robinson
Inez Wilson
Rena Maxwell
The main item of complaint of the above listed citizens was the
fact that the majority of the vacant property was over-grown with
weeds and under-brush and as a result harbors rats, vermin, trash,
junk automobiles, etc. They expressed and feel that this should
be deaned up. The City Manager explained in order for the City
to participate in cleaning on private property due process of the
law has to be complied with. He also stated that it would be
necessary that each property owner be advised and given an oppor-
tunity to clean his property and if they do not comply the City
could clean the property after due process and the cost of cleaning
would be assessed against the property.
Other complaints expressed were the rundown condition of some
dwellings and this was answered that citizens should attempt to in-
still civic response by their neighbors as well as pride in owner-
ship.

Complaints were heard about the speeding on Jackson Road. It seems
the speeder trips originate at the Big L and use an easement.
Mr. Hilliard, Director of Public Works advised that the illegal
use of the easement will be blocked off.
Complaints were heard covering street lights and the Advisory
Planning Board recommended to the City Manager that he take
necessary steps to install street lights where needed.
It was recommended by the Advisory Planning Board that as a result
of the meeting of the citizens of the Donner Subdivision that the
City Commission direct attention to the above complaints and
encourage the citizens to organize a clean up campaign and the
City will assist and furnish necessary trucks to haul off debris
that is assembled by these civic minded citizens.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
