CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH
CITY COMMISSION MEETING
STAFF REPORT
AGENDA ITEM: Proposed Change Order to West 6th and West 10th Street
Sidewalk Project (PW0707)
SUBMITTED BY: Rick Carper, P.E., Public Works Director
DATE: February 28, 2007
BACKGROUND: At the February 12th meeting, the Commission awarded a contract
to Gruhn May for construction of a sidewalk construction on West
6th and West 10th Street (PW0707) and a bike path on Seminole
Road from the 5 Points Intersection to Selva Marina Drive
(PW0708).
Bids for construction of both the sidewalk and bike path portions
came in well under budget. Two minor sidewalks, Palm Avenue
and W. 11th Street extension, relatively high on the Sidewalk
Construction Priority Analysis, could be added to this year's
construction plan for approximately $12,000.
In January, the Commission previously approved Staff's
recommendation to use extra funds from this account /project to
correct cross-slope issues with the Rose /Orchid Street sidewalks.
Approximately $20,000 has been obligated for this purpose,
resulting in correction of the worst areas along Rose Street. With
approval of this change order, there will be $37,000 remaining to
complete the cross-slope corrections on Orchid Street, with an
estimated cost of $20,000.
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize.the City Manager to execute a change order to the
Gruhn May contract to add construction of sidewalks on Palm
Avenue and West 11th Street.
BUDGET: The sidewalk portion of the contract as awarded is budgeted at
$51,000. The current year budget for sidewalk construction
(PW0707) in the Half Cent Sales Tax Fund (Account 131-0000-
541-6300) is $120,000.
