BACKGROUND: Community Development Block Grant funds were designated to extend water
and sewer lines on Begonia Street from Levy Road to West 14th Street. The utility construction will
require digging up most of the existing roadway, which is currently a substandard (16 feet wide) road.
Staff recommends widening the road to a width of 20 feet during reconstruction to meet current City
standards (Land Development Regulations Sec. 24-252 (i)). In addition, some minor drainage
„~, improvements are needed to connect to an existing cross drain. These costs were not included in the
original estimate. Also, after completing the detailed water and sewer design, it also appears that the
utility work may exceed the budgeted funding. The total estimated additional cost is approximately
~. $50,000.
BUDGET: A total of $100,000 in CDBG grant funds is available for the project. Additional funds
are available ($50,000) from the Mandalay Park project (001-5002-541-6300, PW0702).
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the transfer of $50,000 from the Mandalay Park project to the
Begonia Street project for roadway improvements.
