AGENDA ITEM#3A
APRIL 9, 2007
~ Sanitation Rates for Adioinin~ Cities; At the last City Commission meeting, a citizen alleged
that the rate for sanitation service proposed for adoption by the City of Atlantic Beach would be
~, higher than those in the Cities of Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach. The rate adopted for
residents in Atlantic Beach for monthly sanitation services was $17.10 per household effective
June 1, 2007. The rate currently in effect for the City of Neptune Beach is $18.75 per month per
„~, household and the current rate in the City of Jacksonville Beach is $16.31 per household per
month. These and rates from other cities were reported to the Commission several weeks ago.
~. Toter Sizes; Also at the last commission meeting, the same citizen complained about not being
able to fit a 64 or 96 gallon "toter" in their gazage, saying that they were considerably larger than
the gazbage cans that they presently use. 'The sizes of various available toters are as follows;
96 gallon - 35" x 30" x 43"
64 gallon - 32" x 24" x 42"
~. 48 gallon - 29" x 24" x 38"
32 gallon - 24" x 19" x 39"
The City's waste contractor, WSI, will only stock the 64 and 96 gallon containers. If residents
want to purchase their own 32 or 48 gallon toter with the appropriate lifting device so that it can
be handled in the semi-automated system, then the City would have no objection to their doing
~' so provided that all their gazbage is put in the toter on a weekly basis. If it routinely exceeds the
size that can be contained in the smaller toters, then, like for other residents of the City, a second
monthly gazbage collection chazge will be assessed to that resident and they will be required to
~" get another toter.
