EVENT SUMMARY
Scope of the event
• Course Information: The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2008
near the Mayor Clinic Campus in Jacksonville, Florida. Located near the beach., runners
and walkers will enjoy beautiful views of the Intracoastal Waterway and tidal marshland, and
meander through the unique beach communities of Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and
Atlantic Beach. Weather permitting,. a 2.5-mile section will be run on the hard-packed sand of
this Florida coastline.
The race course will be open a total of 7 hours. Combining the marathon and half
marathon we expect to host 5,000 runners.
Supporting the Cause: Proceeds from the race will go directly to The Donna Hicken .
Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to helping women with breast cancer.
While a portion of the proceeds will be used by the Donna Hicken Foundation for the
critical care of breast cancer survivors in need, the foundation has pledged to donate the
majority of funds raised to Mayo Clinic for research and- its Multidisciplinary Breast Clinic,
which specializes in the detection and treatment of breast cancer.

Course Logistics
• Water Stations: Water stations will be placed on both sides of the streets about every
mile. Volunteer. leads will manage volunteers at each water stations. These volunteers
will be responsible for filling up cups and trash pick up for their station area.
• Fuel Stations: Fuel stations will begin after mile 15. Gel packets and other supplements
will be provided to marathon runners. Same as the water stations volunteer leads will
manager volunteers at each station providing product and clean-up.
• Entertainment Zones: Entertainment zones will be placed every couple of miles. They
will consist of live bands, radio broadcasts and other entertainment for both runners and
spectators. These zones will be placed in locations with ample space. No music will be
played prior to 8:30 a.m.
• Portolets: We will place portolets along the race route for both runners and spectators.
The portolets will most likely be dropped the day prior to the race and will be picked up
post event. We will follow all necessary sanitation requirements..
• Aid Stations 8< EMS Coverage: Jacksonville Fire Rescue, Mayo Clinic and the
University of North Florida Nursing Program have teamed up to provide all of the first aid
and EMS coverage for the marathon and half marathon.
UNF Nursing Program will have several first aid booths along the race route to provide
assistance with Band-Aids for blisters, pain relief for muscle aches and cramps and other
aid needs.
Jacksonville Fire Rescue will have bike teams, merv units and other fast response
vehicles to assist anyone with medical complications along the race route. They will stay
in constant communication with the unified command. Along the route we will have race
spotters to assist with the runners on the route and spotting any need for assistance.
Mayo Clinic will provide all Start and Finish line medical support. They will also stay in
constant communication with the unified command and manage support.
• Security of Route and Crowd Control: The race will be lead by a race lead vehicle
along with motorcycle officers to keep route clear. Each intersection will be coned off and
will have T-shirt security or a volunteer presence. Major intersections will have officers to
assist with the hold and release traffic patterns. This will assist anyone needing to arrive
or leave their residence. We will rent cones and other traffic barricades to assist.
• Trash Collection: Volunteers at each water and fuel station will be responsible for
cleaning their areas. We will also supply a crew for the route to assist with the trash
collection. Post event we will also send a street sweeper to clear any items missed if
necessary.
