BACKGROUND: The City Commission authorized Gruhn May, our annual utility contractor, to
construct sewer improvements on Shangri La Drive as part of the City's Sewer Master Plan. This
project involves abandoning the older Shangri La lift station and rerouting the flow to the Gavagan
Road station. The project is nearly completed.
The Gavagan Road lift station wetwell coating has started to fail, which leaves the concrete wetwell
vulnerable to attack by sewer gases that destroy the structure. By installing a fiberglass wetwell liner
during the current project, we will save costs of additional bypass pumping that will be required once
the Shangri La station has been completely abandoned.
BUDGET: The cost to re-line the wetwell is $36,700, and funds are available in the Sewer Fund
contractual services account #410-5506-535-3400.
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the City's annual contractor, Gruhn May, Inc. to re-line the
Gavagan Lift Station wetwell for a total of $36,700.
