MEMORANDUM
TO: The Honorable Mayor
and Members of the City Commission
FROM: Jim Hanso
SUBJECT: Follow-u Report
FDOT Reimbursement for Right-of-way and drainase maintenance; A question was asked
at the last commission meeting about how much Atlantic Beach's actual cost was for
maintenance on Atlantic Blvd., Mayport Rd. and certain drainage ditches for which FDOT
reimbursement was approved. The work outlined in the FDOT contract includes tree trimming,
landscape maintenance, sweeping, maintenance of drainage ditches in the Saratoga and Fleet
Landing areas, and maintenance of three ponds including those between 4~' and 5~' Street on
Mayport Road, one of the two ponds in the Tideviews Park and the newest FDOT pond on
Mayport Road next to the Hess Gas Station. The total cost to the City of Atlantic Beach was
$71,180. This does not include some additional time by city employees for miscellaneous litter
removal and some of the grass mowing. The reimbursement contract from FDOT totaled
$51,299.44. It is understandable that the City's cost for maintenance is higher than the FDOT
reimbursement because Atlantic Beach has considerably more landscaping and maintains it at a
much higher level than what the FDOT would normally approve for highway medians in the
right-of--ways. The FDOT amount is calculated using a "mow and go" service level.
Palms Apartments; When the report was made to the City Commission at the last meeting
about the code compliance status of the Palms Apartments, it was noted that a representative for
the owner had sent a letter dated August 14~' indicating that plans would be submitted for
building permit approval within "two to four weeks". As of the writing of this report on 9/3107,
no plans have been submitted to the Building Department for approval.
