MINUTES OF THE WORKSHOP MEETING OF ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION
HELD IN CITY HALL, 800 SEMINOLE ROAD ON JUNE 20, 1994.
Present: Lyman T. Fletcher, Mayor
Steven M. Rosenbloom, Commissioner
Robert G. Weiss, Commissioner
Also: Kim D. Leinbach, City Manager
James R. Jarboe, Deputy City Manager
Maureen King, City Clerk
Absent: Suzanne Shaughnessy, Commissioner (Excused)
J. Dezmond Waters, III, ( Excused)
In the absence of the Mayor who arrived later in the evening,
Commissioners Weiss and Rosenbloom felt that even though a quorum
was not present, since several citizens had attended the meeting,
they would discuss any matters relating to the budget or they would
respond to any questions the citizens may have.
Discussion ensued and citizens requested that the City Commission
consider including funds for the construction of bike paths and
possibly closing in the large ditch on Seminole Road.
Discussion ensued regarding enforcing the speed limits and J.P.
Marchioli suggested the possibility of equipping police officers
with motorcycles. He felt this would be economical and would
provide increased police visibility. Another citizen cautioned the
City Commission about spending large sums of money on studies. He
felt money would be better spent on increased police protection.
Alan Potter felt that "rumble strips" would be helpful in reducing
speed. Another citizen suggested more aggressive ticketing for
illegal parking as a source of additional revenue.
Discussion ensued regarding paving and Public Works Director Bob
Kosoy indicated that Sherry Drive, Royal Palms Drive, and Sailfish
Drive were all main thoroughfares and all were in need of major
repairs. However, it was explained gas tax revenues had been
pledged for the paving in Section H thus limiting the funds
available for other paving projects.
A lengthy discussion ensued regarding the city' s water and sewer
system and Mayor Fletcher explained the steps the city had taken to
bring the system up to standard. He said the water and sewer
system was now being run like a business but the city was still
paying catch-up.
There being no further discussion, the Mayor declared the meeting
adiourned.
