The meeting, which was held for the purpose of discussion on the proposed new police building,
was called to order at 5:10 p.m. by Mayor Borno.
1. Assistant City Manager David Thompson gave a brief overview of the inadequacies of
the current police building and explained the new police building will be approximately 14,000
s.f. He further stated he is in the process of doing a pre- disaster mitigation grant application for
this project, but cannot proceed with the applications, etc. until they have some direction from
the Commission.
2. Ian Reeves, president of Architects Design Group, gave a slide presentation on the three
development options for the building footprint of the new police facility highlighting site
influences, proposed exterior building materials, and green roof attributes. He explained the
building materials that are included in the components of the walls and roof, specifically, are
what the grant covers cost for in addition to planning and engineering for the design, so this grant
program will reimburse the City for a portion of the design work. He further explained the
reasons Architects Design Group recommends Option 1 of the site plan. He stated he was asking
for direction from the Commission as to which footprint would be more in keeping with what
they have in mind so they could move forward with that to begin work with Chief Classey on the
interior design and also to assist Mr. Thompson with the grant application.
Mr. Reeves answered questions from the Commission.
After further discussion, it was the consensus of the Commission to go with Option 1.
There being no further discussion by the City Commission, the Mayor declared the meeting
adjourned at 5:54 p.m.
