MINUTES OF THE EQUALIZATION ATION BOARD AND THE ADJOURNED MEETING
OF THE ATLANTIC BEACH TOWN COUNCIL HELD AT THE TOWN HALL ON
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10TH, 1957 AT 8 P.M,

The meeting was called to order by the President Mr. Minchew
and immediately went into session as an Equalization Board
to receive complaints or requests for changes in the 1957 Tax
Roll. Certificate of Publication covering the notice of this
meeting is attached hereto and made a part of these minutes.
Mr. H.S. Thames requested the Council to review the assessment
on the houses he built in the Ed Smith Sub-division, as he per-
sonally can replace these houses at a lower cost than the value
the assessor has set for them. There was a discussion in which
it was brought out that Mr anyone, other than Mr. Thames himself
Would have a greater replacement cost, and therefore the Appraisor6's
value would be correct„ and that 3.t is equal values that we are
striving for on the Tax Roll. The appraisors recommended no change
and that the request be denied.
There were no further complaints so the Council decided to take
this one under consideration at the adjourned session immediately
following and make a decision.
The Council then went into adjourned session and took Mr:. Thames
request under consideration. Following discussion Mr0 Carr moved
that we arbitrate and put the houses on the Roll for $2, .500, instead
of the $2.610, set by the appraiser. The motion was seconded by
Mr. Wardrep and the vote was
Aye: Carr Wardrep
Nay: Howell z, Minchew
Absent :Weiss
Whereupon the President declared the motion not carried and the
request denied.
Mr. Howell introduced Ordinance # 208 Approving and Adopting the
1957 Tax Assessment Roll and moved its adoption on third and final
reading. The motion was seconded by Mr.z Carr and the millage was
decided on as 8 Mills. Said motion having been duly considered
the President put the question thereon and the vote was:
Aye: Carr. Howell, Wardrep,, Mi nchew
Absent: Weiss
Whereupon the President declared said motion carried and said
Ordinance #208 duly adopted on third and final reading..
The Town Clerk announced that the Election Officials for the General
Election of Tuesday, October 15th, 1957 are;
Mrs. Leura Shugart
Mrs. Ellen Claiborne
Mrsu Margaret noodling
Mr. Warren Hunnicutt, whp was present, expressed thanks to the
• Town and all Officials for the co-operation they had received while
making the appraisals.
Mr.. Howell moved adjournment from day to day.
