04-05-55 v MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC BEACH TOWN COUNCIL
HELD AT THE TOWN HALL ON TUESDAY, APRIL 5TH, 1955 AT $ P.M.
Present:
Norman Minchew
Marvin Carr
L.J. "Jack" Feather, Councilmen
and
J.A. Reid, Mayor
J.D. Brotchie, Town Manager
Adele S. Grage, Town Clerk
The meeting was called to orde_ by the President, Mr. Minchew.
The matter of offer of City of Quincy to sell the American-
LaFrance Type 75 Pumper for $1000.00 delivered was brought up
for consideration. Mr. E.S. Baughan of the Insurance rate Bureau
and Mr. Ray Willis of the American-LaFrance Co. were present
for an informal discussion with the Council on the question of
fire rates and the pumper. Mr. Baughan is inclined to think that
with a waterworks of equivalent lines and capacity as Neptune
Beach and if Neptune Beach will answer calls in Atlantic Beach
the same as they do in Neptune Beach that it is possible that
Atlantic Beach will carry the same insurance rates as Neptune
Beach. There' s no doubt that if we have some type of fire equip-
ment we would get consideration on our fire rates. Mr. Minchew
brought out that we do not propose to use this piece of equipment
on major fires, but to continue to use the present arrangement
we have with Neptune Beachirtil such a time as we have an
organized and equipped fire department. This equipment would
be used on grass fires and to augment Neptune's equipment in case
of a major fire.
Mr. Willis advised that the pumper can do 750 gals. a minute and
he feels getting this fire equipment would help the rates. Of course
it isn't the type he would like to see us have, but it is a good
starter, and he would like to see the Town get it, as a beginning.
There was considerable discussion of the matter , following
which Mr. Feather moved that the Town, following investigation
and after due consideration, purchase from the City of Quincy one
fire truck as described for $1000.00 delivered F.O.B. AtEJantic
Beach, and that check be made payable tp the City of Quincy.
The motion was seconded by Mr. Carr and carried.
Upon motion of Mr. Feather the meetimg adjourned from day to
day at 8: 40 P.M.
