08-16-55 v MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC BEACH TOWN COUNCIL
HELD AT THE TOWN HALL ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 16TH, 1955 AT 8 P.M.
Present:
Norman Minchew
Marvin Carr
E . Gerry Adams
A.S. Thames, Councilmen
and
Frank Thompson, Town Attorney
J.F. Waggoner, Jr. , Town Manager
Adele . Grage, Town Clerk.
The meeting was called to order by the President, Mr. Minchew.
Mr. Waggoner reported on the findings so far at the plant site
and requested that he be allowed a few more days before making
recommendations on the outfall line, There are several matters
he would like to check further and take up with the Engineers
again. It was decided to defer any action on this matter at
this time and the President will call an adjourned meeting when
Mr. Waggoner has his report ready.
There was a discussion of the Zoning Ordinance as regards the
matter of reversed frontage and also the set back requirements
for rear yard as affected by the new long ranch type architec-
ture.with attached garage. When the garage is detached it
can be within 5 feet of the back line of the lot, but if at-
tached to the house it becomes a part of the main dwelling
and must be 30 feet from the back line . With the front set-back
requirement of one-sixth of the depth of the lot, and required
30 feet rear lot space, there just isn't room for the long
houses with garage attached. Requests have been received to
let a part or all of the garage be within the 30 feet, but no
part of the house proper. Upon motion of Mr. Adams, seconded
by Mr. Carr the Town Clerk was directed to start necessary
proceedings for a Public Hearing to amend the Zoning Ordinance
in this respect.
Mr. Waggoner reported that a complaint had been received from
the Gurtler Apartments that our garbage truck has damaged
their driveway going in for garbage and they would like for
the Town to repair same. It was brought out that the garbage
is put in a big pen in the middle of the back yards to these
duplexes and the garbage truck has to drive in to get it.
By previous arrangement the garbage is collected from the 10
duplex (20 units) for just $72.00 per year using the one big
pen in the back area. In the discussion it was brought out
that Mr. Gurtler claims homestead exemption on these places,
while his residence is Orlando, Fla. The Town Clerk was directed
to check on the matter and see if he receites homestead exemption
there.
Upon motion of Mr. Carr , seconded by Mr. Adams the following bill
covering insurance on additional equipment was approved for pay-
ment:
A.R. Rosborough & Bro. $33.62
Upon motion of Mr. Adams the meeting adjourned from day to day
at 9 P.M.
