08-09-38 v SPECIAL MEETING OF THE TOWN OF ATLANTIC BEACH, FLORIDA, HELD AUGUST 9th, 1938, AT THE TOWN HALL, AT 8-45 O'CLOCK, P. M. FPISENT: - J. C . Cutler, C . C. Howell , G. L. Rosborough, Brooke G. White, Jr. The meeting was celled to order by Mr. J. C. Cutler, Pres. Mr. Rosborough offered the following resolution, seconded by Mr. Howell , out and unanimously carried: - R E S O L U T I O N - WHEREAS, The Inspectors and the Clerk of the General Election held in Atlantic Beach, on August 9th, A. D. 1938, for the pur- pose of electing a mayor and five councilmen, canvassed the votes cast and did make due returns of the same in words and figures as follows: - CERTIFICATE OF RESULT CF GENERAL ELECTION OF THE TOWN OF ATLANTIC BEACH, HELD ON TUESDAY, AUGUST, 9th, 1938, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR AND FIVE COUNCILMEN. TO THE TOWN COUNCIL OF ATLANTIC BEACH, IN DUVAL COUNTY, FLORIDA. We , the undersigned, being the inspectors and the Clerk appointed to conduct General Election in the Town of Atlantic Beach, on Tuesday, August 9th, 1938, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and five Councilmen, hereby certify that we conducted said election on said date , and counted the ballots cast for and against the candidates whose names are printed on the ballots and find the results to be as follows: - The number of qualifies voters, according to the Registration Books, WAS 258 The number of such qualified voters who participated in said election, .end who cast ballots in said election , NAS 227 The number of ballots cast for M. Be it further resolved, and it is hereby found and deter- mined by the Town Council of Atlantic Beach, acting in the ca- pacity of a canvassing board, that a majority of the qualified voters , who participated in said General Election, cast their votes in favor of the above candidates as follows: - FOR MAYOR:- Geo. H. Smith, 130 FOR COUNCILMEN, E. L. Chiasson 164 G. L. Rosborough, 130 J . C . Cutler, 122 Thos. N. Trout, 122 Robt. E . Sugg, . 121 and it is further found and determined that the above named can- didates are elected to serve for the next two years. Attest: - C i erk./ MEETING OF THE NEW TOWN COUNCIL OF ATLANTIC BEACH , HELD AUGUST 9th, 1938 , AT 9 , O'CLOCK, P. M. AT THE TOWN HALL, OCEAN BOULEVARD & SEVENTH ST. The Roll being called, the following members answered to their names: - J. C . Outler, G. L. Rosborough, E. L. Chiesson, Robert E. Sugg, Thomas N. Trout. Geo. H. Smith also was present. The meeting was called to order by acting chairman, J. C. Outler. Upon motion put, seconded and carried, J. C . Outler , was made President Pro. Tem. Upon motion put, seconded and carried, E. L. Chiasson was made Vice Pres. Pro. Tem. E. L. Chiasson, Robert E. Sugg and Thos. W. Trout, took oath of office as new Councilmen. Upon motion put , seconded and carried, it was voted that ell employees remain temporarily in their present positions un- til the next meeting of the Council , when permanent employees would be installed. Upon motion of Mr. Sugg , seconded by Mr. Chiesson put and carried, it was voted that at least three of the Council, and if possible all five , get together to consider and make recommendations for officers, committees, employees etc. to be reported on at the next meeting.
