H. Thompson, Brook G. White, am, Liar or Geo. H. Smith. The meeting was calledto order by Mr . J. C. Cutler, President Pro. Teri. The temporary Clerk, E. J. Candee, read the minutes of the meeting of Aug. 11th, which were approved as read. Upon motion of. Ur. Howell, seconded by Mr. Thompson, put and carried, Mr. J. C. Cutler, was elected President. Upon motion of Mr. Thompson, seconded by Mr. Rosborough, put and carried, Mr. C. C . Tloweli, was elected Vice President. Upon motlo n of Mr. Rosborough, seconded by Mr. Howell, but and carried, Miss E. J. Candee, was appointed Clerk. Upon motion of Mr. White, seconded by Mr. Rosborough, put and carried, J. L. E. P. Barwald, was appointed Tax Assessor. Upon motion of Mr. White, seconded by Fr. Mosborough, put and carried, action was deferred on appointment of an attorney for the Town. Upon motion of hlr. White, seconded by Mr. Thompson, put and carried, Hr. J. A. Reid was appointed Municipal Judge. Upon motion of Mr. White, seconded by Mr. Thompson, put and carried, Morris Warren was appointed garbage collector, with T. B. Brown, as helper, the helper being for the summer months. FOLLOWING COM. Smith, Mayor, in reference to lot cleaning, in which he suggested that the amount spent for this purpose be equally divided(as all lots cleaned were approximately the sane size) and that the Town Clerk be instructed to immediately enter appropriate assessment against the lots which were cleared at the town' s expense. At the conclusion of the reading, a notion was made by Mr. Howell, seconded by Mr. Thompson, put and carried, that this matter be referred to Mr. White, with authority to act. The Clerk read a letter fror, ha nor Smith, in which he set forth the convenience and advisability of numbering the houses in Atlantic Beach. The Chair advised that this matter be turned over to the Laws & Rules Commit,:ee, that they might consider drafting an ordinance to cover this matter and make report on same. The Clerk read a letter from Jacksonville Underwriters inquiring present status of fire protection. kr. U. H. Adams, Jr. , being present stated that a representative of said under- writers, had called at the hotel and ascertainedall desired in- formation. Thereupon the Chair instructed that the letter be placed on file. The Chair instructed that the financial report sub- mitted by thetreasurer, Mr. Osborne, be and.ed over to Mr. White, Chairman of Finance Committee. Upon motion moved, seconded put, and carried, the Shell Oil Corporation Bill of $143.61, for gas and oil, period June 29, to July 31, was approved and.authorized paid. After some discussion, a motion was made b,r Er. Rosbor- ough, seconded by Er. Thompson, put and carried, that the pur- chase of the Townts gas and oil, rotate on a monthly basis among i?obt. E. Sugg, Jas . E. David and The Texas Co., provided the prices are the same. • Upon motion of Mr. Y:hite, secondee. by Mr. Howell, put and carried, the bill. of J. L. Tl put and carried, it was decided that after the expenses of the election were: paid, which Clerk reported as $28.50, the remainder of the qualification fees, put up by- the candido ; es, w .ich. amount- =;d ' $21.50, be turned over to Mrs. Geo. H. Smith, to have shelves built in the Town Hall . uditorium, for books for a circula.t-'_r_g library, established primarily for the young people and children, said library to be kept open three afternoons a week. The Clerk las- instructed to deposit the $50.00 qualification fees and to then draw warrants for amounts spent and donation herein referred to, in order that a complete record might be shown. • The question of who should inspect slot machines hav- ing arisen, this matter was referred to the Laws and Rules Committee. Upon notion of Mr. Thompson, seconded by Ir. Howell, put and carried, E: d +_rshburn, Superintendent of IPA work, was authorized to obtain five gallons of gas a week for his car, used in running about on Town business. Mr. I.iarshburn, being present, explained that under the new set up, the drivers allowed by EPA did not work as many hours as the other workmen and therefore there would be several days when there would be no drivers and therefore the work would have to cease on those days unless the Town pro- vided drivers. A motion was made by kr. shite, seconded by Mr. Thompson, put and carried, that the Town pay the frivers for the extra days. A motion eas made by Mr. Thompson, seconded. by I. r. Rosbor•ough, put and carried that twenty-five copies or more, of the Financial Trews, containing a complete copy of the Zoning Ordinance, be obtained, same to be used from time to tine, as people requested a copy of this ordinance. Mayor Smith, kindly • offered to attend to t' is matter and obtain the copies. It being pointed out that the first Monday in September was Labor Day, it wa moved, seconded put, and carried, that the 411 Regular meeting of the Council be held the following Monday, Sept. 14th, 1 cW).
