09-25-33 v E' UALIZATION BOARD MEETING OF THE TOWN COUNCIL , HELD SEPTEL ER 25th, 1933, AT 8 O' CLOCK_, P.M. PRESENT:- E. H. Thompson, Geo. B. Stallings, Jas. D. Palmer. In the absence of the President, Mr. Lawrence K. Tucker, Jr., the Meeting'was called to order by Mr. E. H. Thompson, Vice President. The Clerk read the minutes of September 11th, which were approved as read. Mr. S . S . Blondheim, being present in person, made protest at the assessment of his house, situated on Lot 11, Block 43, which was shown on the assessment roll at a valua- tion of $1500. After investir tion and due deliberation 1:) - the members of the Council, a motion was made by Mr. Palmer, seconded by Mr. Stallings, Fut and carried, that this valua- tion be reduced. to $1000., this decision to be retroactive over 1932 also. Mr. M. V. Osborne, being also present, made com- plaint regarding the raising of his assessment over what it had been prior to 1932. After carefully looking into this matter and studying the situation thoroughly, upon motion of Mr. Palmer, seconded by Mr. Stallings,, put and carried, it was decided just, that Mr. Osborne' s house, on account of it' s age (20 Years) be reduced. from $1000. to $500. The Clerk reac a letter from Mr. J. E. Kavanaugh, requesting that the property of R. R. Meyer, consisting of Lots 1-2-3, Blk. 21, on which the assessment, including the house, is $11,000., be reduced 33-1/35. Upon investigation it was ascertained that this valuation is in line with al others andis fair and equitable and the Clerk was instruct- ed to advise him accordingly. The Clef'k read a communication regarding the lot of Mrs. Irene C. Smith, being Lot 6, Blk. 44, in which she asked for reduction of assessment from $1000. to $750. Upon study of this matter it was ascertained that $1000. was in line with all other valuations and was therefore fair and imrart ial and: the Clerk was instructed to inform her accordingly. A protest was read from Mrs. Norma Harrington, re- garding the assessment of her property, Lot 3, Blk. 20. Af- ter investigation, it was found that the lot was assessed as are all other ocean front lots, at $50.00 a front foot, and her two houses valued at $1800, which was found to be a just and impartial valuation and. the Clerk was instructed to notify her accordingly. Upon motion of Mr. Palmer, seconded by Mr. Stallings, Putand carried, it was decided to continue consideration of the 1933 taxes at the next meeting of October 2nd, vrhen' a full membership was hoped for and to adjourn until that date.
