Gloria Vaughn seconded and the motion passed. On the subject of beach access/street end improvements, 3une reported that 3rd Street had recently turned in billing for ~'~' some replanting/refurbishing done at that location; also work at 8th Street will begin shortly after October 1 when the new fiscal budget is in place. A report was made on the plans for 11th Street. A plan was shown and passed around. Some minor changes have been made to the plans, basically to change the locations of the bike racks and benches. The asphalt area will remain but will be resurfaced or sealed. Ron estimated that cost at $75-$100. After discussion, Chuck moved to approve the plans for the 11th Street access, with the changes noted. Mimi seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The forthcoming "Fall Bright Spots Tour" was discussed. Bar- bara Hopson will chair and June, Gloria, Mimi, and Ron will assist. A meeting will be set of this sub-committee for or- ganizational and planning purposes.. June led the discussion of the luminaria event & sales. It was decided, after discussion, to order 400 more kits. This, along with the 350 on hand, will total 750 for selling pur- poses. It was agreed to sell them at the City Tree Lighting on December 5, and again on December 6 in Russell Park. The date of Sunday, December 21, was chosen as the date for the community lighting of the luminaria. ~~ _ BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE MTG. MINUTES, SEPTEMBER 10, 1997 Ron reported on current landscaging projects, advising that all areas were in order pending planting of fall/winter annuals in the next couple of months. There have been some problems with the "mailbox" area at the 5 way intersection. It was suggested that the agricultural extension service be contacted to see if they can offer any solutions. Pansies will be planting at most of the city beds at the appropriate time; Carl will issue the purchase order requisition. Ron advised that the utility shed was completed and was being utilized. June remarked that the Aquatic Garden entrance area that Ron has worked on looks greatly improved. Barbara H. brought up the subject of the proposed tree re- moval in Howell Park in connection with the core city drain- age improvement plan, recommending other solutions should be explored. She stated that this was not intended to be an action item by the committee but she felt that individual members might have an interest. There was no further business and June adjourned the meeting at 8:30 PM. Carl Walker Beautification Coordinator - 2 -
