The meeting was called to order by Mayor Howell for the
purpose of interviewing candidates for the position of
Treasurer/Comptroller for the City of Atlantic Beach.
The Mayor advised that all interviews must be held in public
and after discussion , it was determimed that all candidates
present would be interviewed . The following candidates were
interviewed : Judith Alice Dell , 106 Myra St . , Neptune Beach,
Florida, Robert Brown , 2836 Adele Road , Jacksonville , Fla. ,
Charles Hartman, 886 E. Coast Drive, Atlantic Beach, Florida ,
William E. Koenig, Jr. , 780 Redfin Drive, and Georgette M.
igley, 1249 Cape Charles Avenue , Atlantic Beach , Florida.
tach applicant was questioned individually as to background
experience of computers , accounting, and auditing knowledge .
The Commission asked each one for references , salary expected ,
which ranged from $16 , 000 to$20, 000 and was negotiable, and
how soon the candidate would be available to accept the
position. The maximum time required was two weeks . Mrs . Ruth
O ' Connor was recognized by the Chair. She stated that she had
just heard about the position that was open, and was very
interested in the job as she had 20 years experience with
municipal accounting. Mayor Howell said that if she could
submit a resume by the next day they would be glad to consider
her.
Mayor Howell suggested that a committee should be appointed
to review the applications and report back at the next meeting
with recommendations of the top two or three. Commission
agreed. The Mayor appointed L. W. Minton , Jr. and Catherine
G. Van Ness , Commissioners and Lynton Tyson , the City Auditor
to conduct a more detailed interview with each applicant on
Friday, June 5 , 1981 beginning at 7 : 00 p. m.
The Acting City Manager , Chief Stucki , expressed a deep desire
to return to the Police Department and he asked the Commission
if they could expedite the search for a City Manager , or give
me consideration of another interim City Manager. Commissioner

individuals had applied for the position , and he expressed
the opinion that a decision can be made in the very near
future . Mayor Howell said that he would contact the
screening committee on the next day to determine a cut-off
date, and also a date the committee can report to the
Commission on their recommendations .
There being no further business , the Mayor declared the
meeting adjourned.
