10-05-65 v I � MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION = HELD AT THE CITY HALL ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5TH, 1965 AT 8 P.M. Present: George R. Olsen Chas. R. Moore Donald L. Goodling Walter J. Parks, Jr. , Commissioners ��ris0�\�M� Adele S. Grage, City Clerk Absent: John W. Weldon, Commissioner. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor-Commissioner,Mr.Olsen, and immediately went into session as a Canvassing Boatd to receive the reports from the Election Officials covering the 1965 Primary Election of City Officials and the Freeholder' s Referendum Elec- tion on the SoutherniBell Tel. & Tel. Co. franchise. Copies of the Certificate of Results of the Primary Election of October 5th, 1965 were presented to the Board by the Mayor and City Clerk. Mayor Olsen read Resolution #65-29 whereupon Mr. Moore moved the adoption of said Resolution accepting the report of the Election Officials, seconded by Mr. Goodling and carried. Where- upon Mr. Olsen declared said Resolution adopted and the following officials duly elected as indicated: Seat #1 - Wm. S. Howell, Mayor-Commissioner (2 years) Seat #4- To be run-off in General Election on October 19th. Seat #5 - John W. Weldon, Commissioner (4 years) Copy of Resolution #65-29 is attachecd to these minutes and made a part thereof. Copies of the Certificate of Result of the Freeholder' s Referen- dum Election on the Southern Bell Tel. .t Tel. Co. franchise Ordi- nance #40-65-5 were presented to the Board by the Mayor and City Clerk. Resolution #65-30 was read by Mayor Olsen following which Mr. Parks moved the adoption of said Resolution, seconded by Mr. Goodling and carried. Whereupon the Mayor declared the Resolu- tion adopted and Ordinance #40-65-5 approved by a majority of the qualified freeholders voting. Copy of Resolution #65-30 is at- tached to these minutes and made a part thereof. The franchise is for 30 years with a l%to City on gross receipts for rentals on phones in City. Mr. Olsen recognized Wm. S. Howell who was present. Also the Clerk was directed to send a letter of thanks to the Election Officials. • Minutes 10-5-65, Page #2 It was especially noted and made a part of Resolution #65-29 com- mendation to all the candidates for the very dignified campaign conducted by all. S . Howell 523 SEAT #4, COMMISSIONER: To be run off in General Election October 19th, 1965 SEAT #5, COMMISSIONER John W. Weldon 542 and it is further found and determined that the above named candidates are duly elected to serve for two years for Seat #1, and to serve 4 years for Seat #5. The run- off for Seat #4 will be at the General Election on October 19th, 1965, And be it Further Resolved, that all Candidates be and are hereby commended for the dignified manner in which their camppaigns were conducted in said election. Grage City Clerk RESOLUTION NO. 65-30 WHEREAS, Ordinance -440-65-5 entitled "AN ORDINANCE authorizing the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company to use the public streets of the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida, for the purpose of erecting, constructing, maintaining and operating lines of telephone and telegraph thereon and there- under. " was adopted by the City Commission on August 23, 1965, and the same to be submitted to the electors of said City for their approval or disapproval, at an election to be held on the 5th day of October, 1965, and WHEREAS, the said election has been duly held in accordance with law on said date, and the votes cast thereat have, by the inspectors and clerks appointed to conduct said election, been read, delivered and canvassed, and the returns of said elec- tion have been delivered to said Commission for the purpose of canvassing said election returns and determining and certify- ing the result thereof; NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved, determined, found, declared and hereby certified by the City Commission of the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida, at a meeting of such Commission duly and regularly held, at which said official returns of said elec- tion have been duly and regularly canvassed according to law as follows, that: 1. The total number of qualified electors (freeholders) was 1134 2. The number of ballots cast for approval was - - - 536 3. The number of ballots cast Against approval was - 71 4. The number of unmarked ballots was 0 5. The total number of ballots cast was 607 6. The number of ballots voided was (Absentee) 1 2 . Resolution No. 65-30 That a majority of the ballots cast in said election were in favor of the approval of said Ordinance; therefore, the Ordinance is approved and is in force and effect. * * * * * Passed by the City Commission on October 5th, 1965.
