Selva Lakes Neighborhood Signs Request
A request for two new replacement signs for the Selva Lakes
neighborhood in existing landscape islands in the right-of-way of Park
Side Drive as required by Section 17-28(b ).

BACKGROUND: The Selva Lakes HOA is requesting to replace their two existing neighborhood signs
located in the Park Side Drive right-of-way. The existing signs are in landscape islands at either end ofPark
Side Drive where it intersects with Seminole Road on the south and 11th Street on the north. Propetties in
the Selva Lakes neighborhood are the only propetties along this pottion of Park Side Drive.
The existing signs are painted carved wood at about 98 inches wide by 44 inches tall. The new signs will
be a composite wood with stainless steel letters. They will be 87 inches wide by 27 inches tall with 12 inch
posts. The new signs are about a foot narrower and half a foot plus shatter than the existing signs.
The City's code does have design requirements for residential neighborhood signs constructed in the right-
of-way where Section 17-28(b) states the following;
"Signs, as set forth with above paragraph (a), that are located within public or dedicated rights-
of--way shall be approved by the city commission. Such signs may be approved at the time of final
plat approval as set forth by section 24-202 of this Code, or alternatively, such signs may be
approved upon specific application to the commission. Approval of the city commission shall be
required prior to the issuance of a sign permit. Such signs shall complement and conform to the
"WELCOME TO ATLANTIC BEACH" signs in features including lettering, color, composition,
structural materials, finished surface, and shall be constructed of wood or similar material giving
the finished appearance of carved or sandblasted wood, as described within section 17-32. "
The proposed design features a composite wood frame and background with stainless steel letters spelling
out "Selva Lakes". The use of stainless steel letters is a twist on the typical design. However, the remainder
of the sign is consistent with carved or sandblasted wood design.
The most recent sign in the right-of-way was approved in 2014 by the City Commission. This was the sign
for the Atlantic Beach Country Club located at the intersection of Selva Marina Drive and Seminole Road.

To approve the request for two new replacement signs for the Selva Lakes
neighborhood in existing landscape islands in the right-of-way of Park
Side Drive as required by Section 17-28(b) and as represented in the
attachments of the staff report.
