Mayor Pro Tem t3' pp tY Y
Seat3—Dist 1307 Day on June 21, 2018. We remember the life of Judy Nicholson at this time. Our friend and
neighbor has left behind a legacy of action for kidney cancer patients, medical professionals and
Candace Kelly advocacy organizations, all committed to raising awareness and stemming the growth of a very rare
Commissioner cancer.
Seat 4 —Dist 1306
Brittany Norris Judy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother in Atlantic Beach at the time of her
Commissioner death in 2008. Many of our residents remember her as a top realtor for Watson Realty where she
Seat 5 —Dist 1312 introduced many people to our special city for the first time.
Joe Gerrity On World Kidney Cancer Day, and ten years after Judy's untimely death, increased global
City Manager awareness of kidney cancer is needed. Less than 5% of people diagnosed with cancer have kidney
cancer, meaning that it is one of the rarest forms of cancer. When detected early, patients have
Donna L. Bartle favorable survival outcomes, but many are not diagnosed early. For example, Judy had no
City Clerk symptoms and was diagnosed with kidney cancer during a routine medical exam. Eight short
Brenna Durden months later, she died. Had an early screening test been available, Judy might be with us today.
City Attorney
Your efforts, along with Judy's co-workers, friends, and loved ones, to found the Judy Nicholson
Kidney Cancer Foundation have made a positive difference. This foundation has effectively
advocated on behalf of patients at the state and federal levels in the United States and globally. It is
one of just twenty affiliates of the International Kidney Cancer. Coalition (1KCC), a patient -centered
worldwide network that brings together various patient groups to network, cooperate and share
experiences. Groups that advocate for rare cancers typically have limited capacity and resources. I
support you and the IKCC in your efforts to increase awareness and resources to finish this disease.
I encourage anyone who is interested to learn more about kidney cancer. In addition, I encourage
action by taking a short survey about kidney cancer located at:
