They seem to have no fear and are becoming more brazen in attacking during the daylight. They do not belong in a residential neighborhood where there are domesticated pets, small children and babies. It is only a matter of time before a small child or baby is hurt or killed. Simply telling us to keep our pets inside is not a solution nor is walking around with air horns. We request that trappers are hired by the city of Atlantic Beach to rid us of these dangerous predators. We should not have to be fearful our own property. About 3 weeks ago a 10 yo boy in our neighborhood witnessed his cat being killed by a coyote on their back patio. It was not night time but a bright and sunny afternoon. The cat was not in the woods but on the back porch. The father scared the coyote away but the cat who had been a family member for almost 18 years was dead. Later that day the coyote was seen nonchalantly walking down our street even with a number of our neighbors gathered outside. Three days prior to this another neighbor's cat was found torn in pieces on a neighbor's driveway (He had been unable to get the cat in the night before). A year and 1/2 ago one of our cats disappeared after he would not come in at night. On 7/24/18 a young neighbor witnessed her bunny being taken away by a coyote at lam and I believe earlier another neighbor lost a kitten from her back porch again from a coyote. During the last year multiple family cats have disappeared, been wounded or killed. It has also been noticed that there are less raccoons and possums around. Ther have been multiple sightings of coyotes as well. Coyotes have become a significant threat not only to family pets but potentially people in our area. They seem to have no fear and are becoming more brazen attacking during the daylight. They do not belong in a residential area where there are domesticated pets, small children and babies. We have lived here for over 23 years and before they started the multiple developments north of Assisi Lane we never had an incident involving coyotes or witnessed this type of devastation. It is only a matter of time before a small child is hurt. Simply telling us to keep our pets indoors is not a solution nor is walking around with air horns. One of my neighbors is even afraid to go in her back yard area with her grandchildren because a coyote might sneak up. Also one neighbor noted that that the fence between Hanna park and Oceanwalk has holes dug under and may be a conduit for the coyotes to get through and should be repaired and watched. I spoke to Ms. Glasser about the coyote concerns when she was running for Mayor. I called animal control when our cat disappeared a year and % ago (as that was a time when multiple people were losing cats and the coyotes were being seen). I called animal control about the recent issue as well and have also spoken to Mr. Hogencamp. Everyone has been sympathetic but I am not sure if anyone is trying anything. I was recently told that I need to contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife commission which I did. I spoke to Sarah Helm; she was very nice but discouraging. Basically keep animals indoors unless you are close to them including inside your fenced areas. Coyotes will hunt all day so you are never really safe. They will even eat bird seed so forget a bird feeder. I did learn however that targeted removal of overly aggressive coyotes (which I believe we now have) has been shown to be effective. I did speak to a number of neighbors and have a small petition requesting that the City of Atlantic Beach trap and remove the coyotes presently that have become so dangerous. Of the 30 people that I asked to sign this only one was not interested. This problem is not going away but just getting worse. Thank you. Le'- \L -",
